About us

Live and let live solar.

Proud to empower people to live solar in our communities.

Why EightTwenty

Why the Name EightTwenty?

Light travels from the sun at 670 million miles per hour, taking eight minutes and twenty seconds to reach the earth. In that journey, every aspect of life is powered. Our purpose is to connect residents, business and institutions to the sun and empower them to live solar.

Why We Exist

EightTwenty exists because we believe our greatest resource, the sun, is underutilized— that responsible, advanced stewardship of the sun’s power can lift up our communities for generations to come.

Letter from the founder

EightTwenty’s purpose is to empower US citizens, families, and businesses to live solar. We started with the plan to build a vertically integrated solar developer to serve Middle America. Our goal is to deliver the best customer experience in the country and make solar more viable and accessible than ever.

We started in Oklahoma in 2021. Why? Because it is ranked 7th in the nation for sunshine and 47th for solar energy. While most folks find this discrepancy concerning, we consider it an invigorating opportunity to pave the way for connecting the lives of so many to the sun’s power. We have since expanded to serve Texas, Arkansas, Indiana and Kentucky.

EightTwenty’s culture, values, and quality standards are more than words. They are foundational to every decision we make. This separates us from the pack and we believe it will help to elevate the solar industry.

Our market strategy is simple: deliver on the customer experience and turn each one into a raving fan. No marketing tactic can compete with a trusted brand supported by raving fans. How do you create raving fans? You find the right people and build a culture predicated on respect, focus and quality. Employees are rewarded by what organizations value most.

EightTwenty is owned by employees and local investors residing in each of our markets that have a vested interest in our community’s future.

EightTwenty has an unwavering commitment to make solar succeed across Middle America. We are excited to serve our customers, partners, and employees as we work to help our communities live solar.

Respect is our currency

We treat others how we want to be treated.

“There’s not a lot of companies out there who are so genuinely for their customers, and not for themselves. I’m proud to work somewhere where that’s the culture and that’s the community that they’re building.”

– Josh Zigler

“The kind of culture where people are really feeling like they’re a valued voice, that they can speak up and speak to our principles and what we say we are about, that’s the thing I’m most proud.”

– Sandino Thompson

“In this line of work, when I think of quality, I think ‘is it what the customer wanted?’ At the end of the day can you step back and be like, man that’s a really clean array, that’s a really clean system, we did a great job of this.”

– Sam Pearson

“As we produce our own energy, we’re more in tune with how we’re using energy, and so all these things work together. At EightTwenty we’re trying to invite people into this way of living well and living the lives we were meant to live.”

– Matt Brodine
